First off… Huge shoutout to the creative minds at Nike for this awesome graphic. Thank you for properly capturing our entire season, and the existence of Ohio State as a football team. Keep reading as I offer my thoughts on what “they” said about us.
They Called You Lucky
Lucky? We’re not Florida State. We didn’t spend our season barely squeaking past teams we should’ve washed, only to get exposed when we finally played somebody real. We’re OHIO State. THE Ohio State. If anything, we actually had some pretty shitty luck, with the season-ending injuries of not one, but two star quarterbacks. We lost to a TERRIBLE team, in Virginia Tech. Endured the tragic death of a teammate, with the loss of Kosta Karageorge. Luck didn’t get us that championship; resilience and faith did. Plus, we’re pretty damn good!
They Called You Undeserving
The Ohio State Buckeyes deserved every positive thing that they achieved, this season. A team that got better and better each week, after taking an L that seemingly knocked them out of contention? Yeah.
They Called Your Conference Weak And Your Team Untested
They’ve been doing this for years, man. It’s always either “Ohio State never plays anybody” or “The B1G is weak!” Look, while I do agree that I’d like to see us schedule tougher non-conference opponents, we can’t help that Urban Meyer is the only coach in the B1G that people want to play for. In any event, we dropped Alabama, and we dropped Oregon; with a third-string quarterback. Still “untested”? Didn’t think so.
They Called Other Teams A ‘Dynasty’, The Favorite, ‘Unbeatable’
And they were right. Win or lose, Alabama has pretty much run college football for the last few years. Same with Oregon. They’re always in the mix. All that shit might be dead now. Might be time for Ohio State’s reign to begin.
They Called Your Ranking Disputable And Surprising
Again. We got better and better each week, while some of the ‘good’ teams started to fall off. Dispute the ranking all you want. Can’t dispute that championship, though!
They Called You A Fourth Seed, If That
Everybody wanted TCU or Baylor in that 4 spot, but the ones making the call got it right. We didn’t need to be a 1 or 2 seed, but we also were better than the teams ranked 5 and below. We just needed that window of opportunity. We got it, and we showed up.
They Called You An Underdog
As they did this whole season, every time we played a team who was allegedly “better” than us. But check the record: Ohio State went 4-0 this season in games they were “supposed to lose”.
But Now They’ll Call You Something Else: Champions
Period!
The Ohio State Buckeyes are the 2014-15 National Champions and thanks to the new playoff system, there is nothing anyone can say or do about it. No more excuses. No more debates. It’s time for all these analysts and “experts” to wake up and see the Buckeyes are legit.
